Jeff wall is a large scale photographer he creates vast scenes for his photo's that sometimes involve casts crews and sets.
his work is usually landscapes but they have almost miniture portraits inside them because of the story that is told within the image.
I think his work "a sudden gust of wind" is his most popular work this image is a large scale set recreating a 19th Century Japenese painting. this image took an entire year to finish.
His still life work was shot in the 1990's but his earliest gallery work was shown in 1963
His work to me seems like it is either a representation of society and how it is at the current time of him taking that photograph documentary style or it is a recreation of something or an event.
all of his work is very well composed with everything purposefully put in place for a reason and nothing is out of place. the images have a great sense of scale with alot of detail in them so you will always notice different things and they wont get boring.
for his work "a sudden gust of wind" he was influenced by the Katsushika Hokusai Yejiri Station painting. his work is an almost exact recreation of it.
i really like these images they have alot of depth to them which is what i am trying to do with my fujifilm student awards project. have an image where everything is in its place for a reason and to create a large set and environment to create my images.
