Evaluation
My image is of a wheelbarrow that i have tried to bring a landscape itself into using many different images that i took over a day.
My first idea was first to do a floating photo that is earlier in the blog but then our theme was changed from whatever we wanted to do to a fantasy landscape so my idea had to change luckily a second idea came to me quite quickly
for my piece i shot images in .raw with a nikon d50 and a 50mm lens then i brought them all into photoshop and used a soft brush to erase the areas i didn't want till i had the final piece itself.
to be honest other than my idea having to change i didn't have any problems with the project at all my idea came out just the way i wanted it too.
The artists work can be compared to mine because it is of a fantasy landscape genre and they both have different images brought into one main image.
i am really pleased with my final image and i enjoyed making it if i did the image again i dont think i would change it at all because i spent a long time getting it just the way i wanted it
although i don't like working from blogger because i find the website very hard to use and due to it being on the web i don't feel as motivated to use it

John Goto
John goto was a fantasy landscape artist most famous for his work called high summer his work combines painting drawing and photography to create a surreal landscape that looks almost natural
My Final Piece and John Goto's Work are both in color i chose to do my image in color because i didn't think that black and white would suit the tones that my image had. also i think that black and white images that have been edited through photoshop do not look as realistic and you might be able to see things that have not been edited propperly.
My image is just a standalone image that is not part of a series while john goto's is part of a series called high summer which is also part of his ukadia project.
My image is a very large image all the images that i took were taken in .RAW and edited at full resolution into the final piece. john gotos are smaller than this but i am not all too sure about this because it might just be that over years of people downloading and re-uploading the images the larger versions are hard to find.
Mine and his images are both manipulated it is for the fantasy landscape effect
John gotos images are for historical social and political reasons and were made to send out a message while mine was more of an idea that i had in my head and wanted to go through with it because it was something i had never tried to do before.
our images are not of the same subject because they are many different images so there was no realistic way they could of been of the same subject.
While john gotos images are of a landscape that has been completely altered by himself mine is of a smaller object that i have tried to bring a landscape into.

Photoshop Workshop *5
Half and Half Color/B&W
I duplicated my layer first
then i converted the bottom layer called background into black and white
I then selected half of the image
then i pressed backspace or you could use edit>cut
The lasso tool
This is the lasso tool with this you can draw a rough area around your image to select it. it is a very quick way of selecting something from an image
with this i selected the sign from my image and clicked on the move tool which brought up the transform options i then moved it to the floor of my image i could also do further refinements with the eraser tool then change the blending mode to overlay to make this actually look like its part of the floor
The Quick mask tool
This is the quick mask tool think of it like a layer of clingfilm over your image with this you can change your image without effecting the base image itself because you can just remove the mask
After creating a mask for my image i selected the eraser tool
then using a soft eraser i removed the sharp edge down the center of my image trying to get a smoother transition from color to black and white

if you look at the white image on the right you can see the mask if you alt click on that white box it shows you the mask
as you can see this is my mask it is very rough and in some places it is much sharper this is shown by the darker areas. areas that have very soft erasing are a light grey
this box came up at the bottom it says document
i changed the document to the one i wanted to copy it too and selected ok
i went across to this document and it has been transferred over.

Photoshop Workshop 4*
Vignette
to do a vignette i used lens correction which has an inbuilt vignette option to find this i used the help bar and typed in lens correction which automatically finds what i am looking for
this option now appears which is where photoshop automatically updates the lens database with all the newest lenses that have came out.

this is the lens correction tool bar as you can see vignette is at the bottom this is where you can choose your midpoint which should be the middle then you can choose your vignette from bright to dark -100 is darkest 100 is the lightest
Adding Colour
To add color to an image you can go to the paintbrush tool then select the color you want to paint onto your image for this test i used black.
as you can see i have painted black onto the house image this is going to make the bricks darker i could also use the flow and opacity to make the color less harsh

these are the blending options its best to see which one has the best effect on the image for this one im going to use overlay.
overlay has now been selected
as you can see the black that i painted on has now just been overlayed onto to the bricks and has darkened them but it is very noticable to make this better i could change the flow and opacity to a much lower number to make it more subtle.
Text
This is the text tool and it is used to add text to images.
you click on the image and type in what you like you can use the transform tools to move the text around.
this is the font list and you get the name of the font and a preview of what the font looks like so you can judge what the text will look like quickly before you choose it.

after a couple of minutes editing the text i have created this it is dark and grungy and doesn't really suit the image but it works.
the black background on the text is too harsh so im going to use blur to change that.
i used filters>blur>gaussien blur to change the black background for the text into something much softer
Selective color
this is how you do selective color first you get your color version of the photo and make a duplicate layer then turn the duplicate layer to black and white

Then you choose the eraser tool and select your brush size. you need to make sure you choose the right brush size and that it isnt too big

Then you start to paint in the color the best thing to do is only make small parts of the image color to create a good contrast

This was the next stage of my selective coloring
Transforming
to use the transform tools you go to edit>transform>warp this is used to stretch the corners of an image or warp it around to change the look and feel of the image
this grid will then appear after you have selected warp you can click and drag on the points on the image to stretch and warp that side.

This is a warped image as you can see the house looks like it is bending to one side.

Opacity
This is the opacity tab you can use this to make an image see through if you want to show an image behind it.
Blending options
These are the blending options with these you can change how your image looks such as multiply which will double the channels therfor making the image darker this is one of the most used blending modes in photoshop
This image is using the blending mode screen which is part of the lighten catagory and usually lightens the image to about the same brightness as the screen you are using. this is also one of the most used blending modes in photoshop
Liquify
This is how to use the liquify tool it is under the filters tab it allows you to edit things about a persons appearance like making someone fatter or thinner it is mainly used by fashion photographers to make a person better looking. personally i don't like using this tool.
This is an example of what the liquify tool can do im not sure that most photographers would do this and even if they did they would do it to a better standard than mine. it could also be used as a surrealist type of art
